Small Animal Clinic (SAC) was the first exclusively small animal practice in the Casa Grande Valley. We continue to advance the standard of veterinary care for our patients by maintaining accreditation by both AAHA and AAFP. Scheduling for our veterinarians allows for patient-client interaction and for collaboration with other team members on cases. Management actively supports training and continuing education for our entire staff. Personal advancement is encouraged within the practice commensurate with individual ability and motivation. There is the opportunity for expansion of dentistry, ultrasound, and surgery within the practice.

The Associate Veterinarian works with the direct guidance collaboration and supervision of the SAC Medical Director. The Associate Veterinarian is to make every effort to help improve the quality of care given to the patients of the Small Animal Clinic. The Associate Veterinarian will familiarize themselves with the SAC AAHA Standards, Procedures, and Protocols and AAFP Cat-Friendly Practice Standards, Procedures, and Protocols. There is opportunity and encouragement for personal growth and advancement within the practice.
Will be in accordance with AAHA accreditation and Cat-Friendly accreditation. It is of utmost importance that all veterinarians adhere to the protocols established for accreditation.
Perform physical exams of animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.
Ability to perform diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures that deliver the highest quality of care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.
Communication with clients regarding diagnoses, including differential diagnoses, treatment plans, preventative health care, and nutritional needs.
Ability to collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.
Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images.
Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, nutritional assessment, body condition score, pain assessment, and general care on all patients to promote the health of animals.
Educate the public about zoonotic diseases.
Train and supervise workers who handle and care for animals; as needed, from time to time.
Provide care to a wide range of animals, dog, cats, and if qualified general care of pocket pets and birds.
Humanely euthanize animals when it has been mutually agreed upon by the patient’s owner.
With the assistance of the technical team, administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery, dental procedures, and recovery. Adherence to SAC AAHA and Cat-Friendly Standards of Care for accreditation.
Maintain client/patient medical and surgical records. Adheres to SAC AAHA and Cat-Friendly record keeping protocols including completion of all written logs
Prepare per SAC protocol printed specific, individualized discharge instructions for all hospitalized, surgical, and patients undergoing procedures. All SAC patients being discharged receive comprehensive written and verbal instructions that are communicated to the pet owner and are signed by the owner as received and understood. Additionally, outpatients will receive a SAC Medical Treatment Summary when the attending DVM decides there is a need for written instructions for the client.
Explain dosage/purpose of medications; reinforce through discussion the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home.
Follow SAC Call back/follow-up with clients concerning certain patients; recommend additional medical progress examinations (MPE) per SAC AAHA Standards of Care. Additionally, if patient’s progress does not appear satisfactory and/or as indicated by assessment of the patient recommend appropriate and timely MPE and/or additional Call Backs to the pet owner.
Provide guidance and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service provided to the clients and patients of the Small Animal Clinic.
Perform other duties as deemed necessary and/or are assigned.
Skills and Basic Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited university.
Possesses and maintains up to date Arizona Veterinary licensure in good standing to practice without restrictions in Arizona.
Possesses and maintains their DEA license
Is properly accredited by APHIS to write health certificates for small animals, specifically dogs and cats.
Commitment to practice the highest standard of medicine and surgery.
Commitment to uphold the Veterinary Code of Ethics
Demonstrates the ability and capacity for excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Works collaboratively and harmoniously with all SAC hospital team members
Demonstrates the ability for confident and effective decision making within the SAC team and with clientele interaction.
Demonstrates effective time management and completion of tasks in an appropriate timeframe.
Presents a professional and courteous manner to all staff and clientele. Including adherence to SAC dress code and personal appearance.
Commitment to adhere and maintain continuing educational training and development as required per AAHA and Cat-Friendly Practice accreditation.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, walk or stand for extended periods of time; sit; and talk or listen. The employee is required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Work often requires lifting and carrying animals, which may weigh upwards of 100 lbs. Animal handlers will provide additional assistance when anyone is working with larger animals of 30 lbs.
Additional Salary Information: Salary and Benefits: Competitive salary base plus the percentage of production based on experience level and job responsibilities. AAHA and Cat Friendly Practice-Gold Level (AAFP) accredited small animal practice - 4 DVM, great, talented technical and support staff. SAC is well equipped, digital x-rays (whole body & dental). There is ample opportunity to expand dental and surgical services within the practice. We provide optimal care and exceed client expectations with highly personalized service. We pride ourselves in embracing progressive change to continually improve patient care and client service. Practice hours 8-5:30pm Monday-Friday and Saturday 8-Noon. Located In Casa Grande, 25 miles south of Phoenix metro. We have a "small city" feel yet close to all the amenities of a large metropolitan area. Population of the city is 50,000.
