SoBran is seeking a Deputy Program Manager to serve at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Deputy Program Manager for the NIH, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of on-site animals.
Description of Duties:
Serve as liaison between Animal Care Contract and the NIAID Project Officer(s), in the Program Manager's absence
Ensure that contract requirements are met, including proper staffing and AALAS certification requirements, in the Program Manager's absence
Facilitate activities concerning Contract personnel and Program Management
Develop and maintain relationships with representatives of government, investigators and contract personnel in order to coordinate activities and conduct investigations in matters concerning quality and client complaints
Supervise Facility Managers, Administrative Managers, Training Manager, and Research Support Specialists, and assist in preparation of their annual performance appraisals
Monitor schedules to ensure that program deadlines/deliverables are met
Ensure safety, security, and physical environment of facilities are compliant
Maintain project specific QA plans and procedures
Monitor and review QA/QC activities for the program
Provide oversight and review animal care and husbandry and other technical support
Assist in personnel matters in collaboration with supervisory staff to include, but not limited to disciplinary issues
Participate in interviews and selection of personnel
Assist in communication with NIAID investigators
Always think safety first when performing daily duties
Perform other duties, as assigned
Schedule: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00 am and depart at 3:30 pm M-F. You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. The weekend/ holiday hours are from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (no more than 8 hours per day). In addition, you may be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.
Must have experience in managing animal facilities, including barrier management, hazard containment, and data management
Must complete the required training and receive clearance on the duties of the Deputy Program Manager as outlined
Ability to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
Ability to remain in a seated position for prolonged periods of time
Ability to read from a computer or laptop monitor for several hours at a time including fonts of various sizes from a variety of sources
Use hands and wrists for repetitive tasks frequently, such as typing, mouse movement and filing
Wear appropriate clothing and/or PPE as defined by standard operating procedure (SOP), animal study proposal (ASP), and the Safety Department to enter animal facilities as needed
Education Required: Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent; be certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as a Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG); and have 5 years experience in a laboratory animal facility, 6 years of which are in a supervisory position.
