QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking an outstanding microbiologist; a DVM (or equivalent veterinary degree) and PhD are required. Candidates are expected to develop a funded research program. Experience in translational and collaborative research in areas that integrate well with the research strengths in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology and related groups on the University of California, Davis campus is required. Current strengths include microbial pathogenesis and infectious disease (including the ecology of infectious disease, host-pathogen interactions, microbiology, vaccinology, protozoology and/or global health), antimicrobial resistance and comparative immunology and immunopathology. The School of Veterinary Medicine embraces the One Health concept and offers many opportunities for collaboration on projects that span animal, human and ecosystem health. Demonstrated interest, experience and/or competence in clinical diagnostic bacteriology/mycology, parasitology, and/or immunology/virology is required. Aptitude/experience in teaching and graduate and professional education is desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching: The primary teaching responsibilities will be participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum with opportunities to participate in undergraduate teaching and/or graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus. A demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching methods and to the training of veterinary or other biomedical scientists is preferred.
Research: Development of a creative and productive research program in relevant fields of interest is a fundamental requirement of the position, including publication of results in high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful applicant is expected to obtain funding and direct research programs involving professional students, residents and graduate students.
Clinical: The position includes a commitment to one or more of the Clinical Microbiology Services (Bacteriology/Mycology, Parasitology, and/or Immunology/Virology) in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). This commitment may include test development and/or interpretation, disease discovery or investigation, instruction of veterinary residents, students, and visiting scholars, providing diagnostic service, or advising and consulting with faculty clinicians, referring veterinarians and clients. It is expected that this individual will help to enhance or develop cutting-edge diagnostic and molecular modalities in one or more of these diagnostic disciplines.
Service: The University of California has a system of shared governance. Active participation in committees, professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate outlets is required.
