The Dumb Friends League in Denver, Colorado is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team! For over 100 years, the Dumb Friends League has been working to end pet homelessness and animal suffering by providing a strong and steadfast voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. As the largest community-based animal welfare organization in the region, we care for more than 20,000 homeless pets and horses each year at our four facilities and are a national model in animal welfare.
The Solutions Veterinary Hospital, our new low cost veterinary hospital, has five guiding principles: prevent suffering, alleviate suffering, maximize our impact, enhance the dignity of our clients, and to collaborate with the veterinary community. This position affords the opportunity to provide lifesaving care to underserved communities within a respectful and compassionate environment. We allow our doctors to provide excellent patient and client care without a focus on owner finances. Our hospital has fixed pricing, and staff are empowered to work with patrons on payment arrangements, so doctors can focus on patients.
The staff surgeon will provide mentorship and surgical training to staff Veterinarians, Interns and Externs, while providing excellent care for patients and owners. This position does not have overnight on call responsibilities.
Perform various orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries.
Collaborate with Veterinary Services management team to maximize efficiencies and positive outcomes.
Supervise and mentor staff Veterinarians and Veterinary interns and externs in surgical techniques and procedures.
Provide surgical training opportunities for staff Veterinarians and Veterinary interns.
Maintain a culture of collaboration and teamwork among the Veterinary teams. Coach junior veterinarians.
Serve as a liaison promoting the League’s philosophy and goals to veterinarians, vendors, the public, and other animal welfare related organizations.
Be a positive representative of the League, some public speaking required.
