Job Title: Equine Imaging Technician
Job Summary:
The Equine Imaging Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures on horses to assist veterinarians in diagnosing and treating equine health issues. This role involves operating imaging equipment, preparing horses for imaging, and analyzing images to support accurate diagnosis and treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Imaging Procedures:
o Operate and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment, including X-ray, ultrasound,
MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, and CT scanners.
o Prepare and position horses for imaging procedures, ensuring their safety and
comfort.
o Administer sedation as required, following veterinary protocols.
2. Image Analysis and Quality Control:
o Capture high-quality images and ensure proper documentation.
o Review and analyze images to identify any anomalies or issues.
o Collaborate with veterinarians to interpret imaging results and discuss findings.
3. Equipment Maintenance:
o Perform routine maintenance and calibration of imaging equipment to ensure
optimal performance.
o Troubleshoot and resolve any equipment issues or malfunctions.
4. Client Interaction:
o Communicate with horse owners and handlers to explain procedures and address
any concerns.
o Provide guidance on post-procedure care and follow-up if needed.
5. Record Keeping and Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records of imaging procedures, results, and patient information.
o Ensure compliance with veterinary standards and regulations related to imaging.
6. Safety and Compliance:
o Adhere to safety protocols for handling imaging equipment and managing
radiation exposure.
o Follow guidelines for infection control and equipment sterilization.
7. Team Collaboration:
o Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other healthcare
professionals to provide comprehensive care.
o Attend team meetings and contribute to discussions on patient care and
treatment strategies.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field.
Certification: Certification as a veterinary technician or radiologic technologist may be required or preferred.
Experience: Prior experience in equine imaging or veterinary radiology is highly desirable.
Skills:
Proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment.
Strong understanding of equine anatomy and common conditions.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both animals and people.
Attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret imaging results.
Work Environment:
· Setting: Equine Veterinary hospital.
· Physical Demands: Ability to lift and move equipment, and manage the physical handling of large animals.
· Working Hours: May include irregular hours, overtime, weekends, and on-call duties based on the needs of the facility and emergencies.
