Budgeted Salary: Initial placement will be between $27.09 – $29.30/Hour, commensurate with educational background and working experience.
THIS IS A PERMANENT POSITION BASED IN SAN BERNARDINO, CA
Under general supervision of the laboratory supervisor, performs diagnostic serologic testing in the CAHFS Immunology Laboratory and participates in all phases of development of new or improved immunology diagnostic techniques, and is routinely involved in independent evaluation of assays and reagents for improvement of current diagnostic services. If required by emergent increases in overall laboratory workload, the individual may provide testing and management support to the Histology section.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Experience in basic knowledge in the field of veterinary histology with skills to prioritize and effectively schedule workload demands.
Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of and skill to perform diagnostic immunology methods including immunodiffusion, serum-viral neutralization, complement fixation, ELISA, agglutination, hemagglutination-inhibition, immunofluorescence, complement-fixation, card, Rivanol, standard plate, buffered acidified plate antigen tests, and others.
Demonstrated diverse knowledge and working expertise in the field of veterinary immunology with skills to prioritize and effectively schedule workload demands.
Skill to produce and quality control immunologic reagents including monoclonal antibodies and antisera produced in laboratory animals.
Demonstrated skill to operate biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, DNA thermal cycler, centrifuges, ELISA readers and washers, auto and manual pipets, incubators, microscopes (inverted and UV), calculators, balances, computers, electrophoresis apparatus, chromatography, spectrophotometer, pH meters, autoclaves, microtome, tissue procession, and staining unit.
Skills to maintain National Veterinary Service Laboratory certification and CAHFS quality control standards for serologic assays including immunodiffusion, immunofluorescence, ELISA, agglutination, and complement fixation on an annual basis; ability to learn and implement the CAHFS quality system requirements to this position.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of individuals, to include co-workers, clients of the CAHFS, individuals from other University units, outside/government agencies.
Preferred:
Knowledge to teach, technically train and provide immunology consultation to a wide variety of technical and other personnel.
Skills to perform appropriate and cost-effective ordering and use of laboratory and/or office supplies and equipment.
